Product FAQ

To pair your G2.x* light with the Gloworm Link App, you must first place the light in “pairing mode”.
Depending on which light series you’re pairing (X-Series or CX Series) this can be accomplished in one of two ways.

X-Series: With the light and battery connected and the light powered off, press and hold the power switch on the light head until the OLED on the power pack reads “PHONE”. At that point, open the app, click the + sign and follow the on-screen prompts to select your light from the device list and begin the pairing process.

CX-Series: With the light powered off, press and hold the power switch on the light for approximately 15 seconds, until it begins to flash BLUE. At that point, open the app, click the + sign and follow the on-screen prompts to select your light from the device list and begin the pairing process.

*G1.0 Lights and batteries are not compatible with Gloworm Link

With your light paired to the Gloworm Link App, open the app’s Device Screen and click on “Check for Device Updates” at the bottom of the screen. Or simply leave the Device Screen open, and the app will prompt you to install a firmware update if there is a new version available*. Then follow the prompts on the screen.

With X-Series, the app will first update the Power Pack, and then it will update the light head. You will be prompted separately for each update.

With CX Series the app will update light and battery together.

To customize the light output levels of your Gloworm Light within the Gloworm Link App, you must create a new “Custom Light Profile” (the factory Default Light Profile cannot be adjusted).

To do this, select the Light in the App’s Device Screen, and click on “Create Your Light Profile (Default)”, next click “New Profile” and name the New Profile anything you want, and click “OK”

You now have a new custom light profile with 3 Fixed Light Levels and one “Special Mode” level. You can add a 4th level by clicking the + sign at the bottom right of the Saved Profiles screen. You may adjust output of all the custom light levels to any point 1-100%.

Special Mode allows you to choose from one of three Flashing Modes or a Dim Mode(1%)” You can create as many custom light profiles as you like and adjust the output levels to meet the needs of that profile.

While technically not a requirement, the Gloworm Link App allows you to create/adjust custom light levels, update firmware (we are constantly updating firmware to better manage battery life, temp management, light output and other processes), and monitor battery levels/health.

You can totally use your Gloworm Light without ever pairing it with the Glowom Link App, but you won’t be using it to its fullest potential.

Ensure you have the latest version of the Gloworm Link app installed and that location services are enabled. In some cases it will be necessary to repeat the pairing process. Removing the device from your Bluetooth settings and restarting your phone can help if issues continue.

This can happen from time to time for a vareity of reasons; Bluetooth interference being the primary cause. The best plan of action, if you receieved a message about a “Communication Error…” or advising you to “Restart your Device…” Is to remove any instance of your Gloworm Light from both the Gloworm Link App, and your Bluetooth settings, restart your phone, and restart the app, then follow the normal pairing/updating process again.

While unsettling to see your Gloworm Power Pack stuck on UPDATE it fairly easy to resolve.
Unplug the battery from the light and restart the app to the paired devices screen. With your Gloworm Light and Power Pack now paired to the App, leave the device screen open and active. In a few minutes the App will restart the Update process and it should resolve itself normally.

Unfortunately no. G1.0 lights are not designed to work with Gloworm Link.

You can pair your TX Remote in one of two different configurations depending on how you want to use it: Single Button Mode or Dual Button Mode

Single Button Mode This will pair a single remote button (Button A) with your light(s) and allow you to scroll up thru all the light levels until it reaches the highest level and then return to the lowest light level. Just like with the Gloworm Link App, to pair your light(s) with the Gloworm TX Remote, you must first place the light in “pairing mode” Depending on which light series (X-Series or CX-Series) this can be accomplished in one of two ways.

X-Series: When you first connect your light to Power Pack, the OLED display will show “Pair TX” for approximately ~ 15 seconds. During this 15 second pairing window, simply click and release one of the buttons on the remote, and the light will flash once to indicate it is paired to that button (Button A)

CX-Series: The first time* you pair the remote to the light you will follow the same steps as pairing CX with the Gloworm Link App – press and hold the power switch on the light for approximately 15 seconds, until it begins to flash BLUE, next click and release one of the buttons on the remote, and the light will flash once to indicate it is paired to that button (Button A)

* It is important to note, once CX has been paired to a specific remote you do not need to go thru the entire pairing process again to reconnect, unless the battery has been depleted to 0% or the firmware version has been updated. Simply power on the light on using the light head’s power switch and click the remote. The light will flash and the remote is re-paired.

Dual Button Mode Once your light is paired in Single Button Mode, you can then pair the remote in Dual Button Mode (Button A and Button B) to allow you to click up and down the light levels using Button A to go up, and Button B to go down.

X-Series & CX Series: With the remote paired in Single Button Mode, and the light powered on, press and hold Button A, and at the same time double-click Button B. The light will flash once and it is now paired in Dual Button Mode.

To pair multiple Gloworm Lights to a single TX Remote, simply follow the steps for Single Button Mode or Dual Button Mode for each light you’d like to pair with the remote.

Single Button Mode (Separate Control): To control multiple lights individually simply pair each light in Single Button Mode to a specific button – one light to Button A, and a second light to Button B. This is helpful when controlling both a helmet light and handlebar light separately with a single remote. In this instance you will scroll thru light levels* on each light, separate from the other, using the specific button assigned to each light.

Dual Button Mode (Synchronized Control): To control multiple lights in sync with each other simply pair each light in Dual Button Mode on a single remote. Both lights will be paired to Button A and to Button B. In this instance, as you click up with Button A, both lights will increase their output, and as you click down with Button B, both lights will decrease their output*.

* It is worth noting here, you can “tune” the output of each light’s levels using the Gloworm Link App, and when controlling multiple lights, either separately or in sync, this allows you to prevent one light washing out the other as you click thru the light levels.

Yes. You can easily change the battery in your TX Remote. Simply remove the 4 screws on the underside of the remote and remove the backplate. Push the button and PCB out of the remote’s body (taking care to note the oreintation of the PCB – UP/DOWN). Slide out the 2032 Coin Cell and replace with a new cell, and reassemble with the PCB in the correct orientation.

The original version (G1.0), known as “TX (RF) Remote” uses BLACK buttons. The newest version (G2.x), known as TX (BT) Remote uses GRAY buttons. They are not interchangeable.

To prevent excessive battery drain, TX (BT) will disconnect after a period of inactivity.
X-Series will maintain connection to the remote for up 18 hours* (firmware 0.0.45) when not in use, as long as the Power Pack and light head remain connected to each other. To reconnect simply disconnect the light head from the Power Pack then reconnect and re-pair the remote.

CX-Series will maintain connection to the remote for up to 60 minutes* (firmware v1.1.9) when not in use. To reconnect simply power on the CX light head using the power switch on the light head body and click the remote once. The light will flash once to indicate it has re-paired.

Lithium Ion batteries can be very sensitive to voltage imbalance. And when left at a low State of Charge (SoC) for an extended period of time, or allowed to discharge to completely flat (0%) they can suffer from volatge imbalance. As a safety precaution the Battery Management System (BMS) will prevent charging from a Fast Charge source, like the Gloworm 20W and 45W Fast Chargers, until the voltage issues are resolved.

To resolve a Gloworm battery not accepting a charge due to voltage imbalance, connect the battery to a low wattage charger (~3-5 watts), like an old-style smart phone charger block, or the USB-A port on a laptop or power strip, using a USB-A -> USB-C cable, until the battery has charged > 25%. At that point it should be safe to move it to your Gloworm Fast Charger.

Indications of voltage imbalance (not accepting a charge):

X-Series (Power Pack G2.x) – When connected to a fast charge source, the OLEd display will wake up, and display the Fuel Guage icon, without the flashing charge indication, and then go to “sleep”

CX Series – The light head’s power switch will flash Red/White, or in extreme cases it will not illuminate at all.

G1.0 – LED fuel gauge will not illuminate or does not flash to indicate chargin. As these batteries are not Fast Charge capable, if your G1.0 Gloworm Battery seems to not want to charge due to voltage imbalance, simply leaving it connected to your Gloworm Smart charger (G1.0) for an hour or two will resolve the issue.

Charge the battery to about 70% and keep it in a cool dry place for no longer than 3 months. Temperatures below 15°C are favourable. The fridge in an airtight container is a good option. Avoid storing a fully charged battery at 30°C or in direct sunlight. If you must store it longer than 3 months be sure to check its charge level at a regular intervals and keep it topped up to at about 70%

It’s best to avoid fully discharging your Gloworm Power Pack or Glowom Battery before recharging. Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries degrade much slower when subjected to smaller, frequent charges rather than being fully charged to 100%. Using a small amount of capacity (e.g., dropping to 70% and topping back up to 80%) causes far less physical wear on the battery than draining it completely and recharging it fully.

You can expect at least 2-3 years of regular use before you begin to see a reduction in battery capacity and runtime. This nomrally equates to ~500 full charge/discharge cycles before capacity and runtime drop below 80% of the battery’s origninal nominal value.

Yes, this is normal. A small amount of battery is required to maintain the TX remote connection. To minimize this discharge, unplug the USB cable from your battery when not in use. If the battery continues drain itself while unplugged, be sure your battery’s firmware is updated to the latest version.

Yes. Your Gloworm Power Pack should be able to operate in below freezing temps. While extreme cold (and extreme heat) can temporarily limit battery capacity and runtime, your Gloworm Battery’s firmware is designed to allow operation below freezing. In most case you can mitigate the impact of extreme cold by insulating the battery inside a jersey or pack during operation.

The firmware can take a few full charge cycles to ‘learn’ the capacity of its cells. Cycle the battery through a few full charges/discharges and the runtime should more accurately reflect advertised runtimes.

Yes, all versions of the Gloworm Power Pack can be used to power other devices. USB-PD compatible devices will receive up to 20W. Non-Power Delivery devices will receive a 5W charge.

For Gloworm Power Pack (G2.0) use the Gloworm USB-C to USB-C Adapter to charge/power any USB-C device.
For Gloworm Power Pack (G2.x) use the Gloworm 3Pin to USB-C Battery Cable to charge/power any USB-C device.

X-Series G1.0 and G2.x lights are rated IP67 (submersible but not recommended).

CX Series is rated IP65 (dust tight and suitable for rainy conditions).

Gloworm uses CREE LEDs. Currently we use the XHP35.2, XML2, and XPG3 LEDs.
The LED’s boast an almost unlimited life expectancy, losing merely about 10% of luminance after 2 years of permanent operation (~17,500 hours).
