When you’re charging down a technical descent or navigating tight singletrack, the last thing you want is to fumble with your bike light controls. The Gloworm TX Wireless Remote puts complete lighting control at your fingertips, allowing you to adjust brightness levels instantly without compromising your grip on the handlebars.
Two Generations, One Purpose
Gloworm offers two versions of the TX Wireless Remote, each designed to work seamlessly with different generations of our lighting systems.
G1.0 Remote (RF Technology)
The original G1.0 remote utilises radio frequency (RF) technology and is compatible with:
- Alpha Light Systems
- X2 1700 models
- Legacy G1.0 X2, XS, and XSV Light Systems
It comes in the box with all Alpha Light Systems. Available for purchase separately here.
G2.x Remote (Bluetooth Technology)
Our latest G2.x remote utilises bluetooth connectivity, representing a significant technological advancement. This version works with:
- G2.x X2 and X2 Adventure Light Systems
- G2.x XS and XS Adventure Light Systems
- G2.x XSV Light Systems
- CX Core Self-Contained Light System
The shift to Bluetooth technology brings measurable advantages. Bluetooth provides less interference from other electronic devices and maintains a more stable connection, particularly in environments with multiple wireless signals. This means more reliable performance when you need it most—whether you’re riding in urban areas with heavy RF traffic or on group rides where multiple riders are running similar systems.
It comes in the box with all G2.1 Light Systems. Available for purchase separately here.
Hands-Free Light Control for Mountain Biking
The primary advantage of the TX Wireless Remote is simple: you maintain full control of your bike whilst adjusting your light output. During night riding, conditions change rapidly. You might need maximum brightness for a steep technical section, then want to dial it back for a fire road climb to conserve battery. The remote makes these adjustments instantaneous and safe.
For riders running helmet-mounted lights alongside bar-mounted systems, the remote becomes even more valuable. You can control two lights independently or sync multiple lights to adjust with a single button press—perfect for maintaining consistent illumination across your entire setup.
Two Control Modes to Match Your Riding Style
The TX Wireless Remote offers two distinct operating modes:
One-Button Mode: Each press cycles through your light’s brightness levels sequentially. This straightforward approach works well for riders who prefer simplicity and have learned their light’s output sequence.
Two-Button Mode: The up button increases brightness, whilst the down button reduces it. This intuitive control gives you direct access to any brightness level without cycling through intermediate settings—ideal when you need to make quick, precise adjustments.
Pairing Process: Simple and Straightforward
The pairing process varies slightly depending on your light system:
For G2.x Light Systems with External Battery:
Setting up your TX Wireless Remote with these systems is remarkably simple:
- Connect your light to its battery, the Gloworm Power Pack
- Within the 20-second pairing window that opens automatically, press the desired button on your remote
- Your light and remote are now paired
The pairing remains active for approximately 18 hours whilst your light stays connected to the battery. This means you can turn your light on and off multiple times during a ride without re-pairing. However, if you unplug your light or the 18-hour window passes without use, you’ll need to repeat the pairing process.
For a visual guide, watch our Gloworm G2.0 User Guide Video, which demonstrates the complete pairing procedure step-by-step.
For CX Core and Self-Contained Light System:
The CX Core uses a different pairing process that offers the convenience of indefinite pairing:
- Long press the light button to enter pairing mode (the light will flash blue)
- Press the desired button on your remote
- Your light is now paired and will stay paired indefinitely unless your light completely runs out of battery or you manually reinitiate pairing mode
Important Safety Feature: If your CX Core light remains off for more than 10 minutes, it can only be turned back on using the button on the light itself. Once turned on, it will remember the remote button you previously paired it with and resume wireless control.
Tool-Free Mounting Between Bikes
One of the often-overlooked advantages of the TX Wireless Remote is its mounting system. A simple rubber O-ring attachment means you can install or remove the remote in seconds without any tools. For riders who maintain multiple bikes—perhaps a dedicated night riding MTB and an adventure bike for bikepacking—this makes it easy to move your remote between setups as needed.
The mounting system is secure enough to handle aggressive riding, yet releases easily when you want to switch bikes or adjust the remote’s position on your handlebars.
Optimising Your Night Riding Setup
Whether you’re running the best MTB lights for your local trails or setting up a complete system for multi-day adventures, the TX Wireless Remote integrates seamlessly with Gloworm’s rechargeable bike lights. The remote works equally well with our self-contained LED bike lights like the CX Core and our traditional external battery configurations.
For riders seeking the best mountain bike lights for night riding, the combination of Gloworm’s high-output systems and wireless remote control delivers both performance and convenience. You get the power needed for technical terrain with the control to manage that power efficiently throughout your ride.
The Bottom Line
The Gloworm TX Wireless Remote might seem like a small addition to your lighting setup, but its impact on ride quality is significant. By keeping your hands on the bars and your focus on the trail, you maintain better bike control whilst adapting your lighting to changing conditions. Whether you’re running a single helmet light or a multi-light system for serious night riding, wireless control simply makes sense.
For riders in New Zealand and beyond who demand reliable MTB lights and intuitive control, the TX Wireless Remote represents the kind of thoughtful engineering that makes night riding not just possible, but genuinely enjoyable.
